Rob Hanmer teaches PE, Drivers Education and Coaches at Rancho Mirage HS and has taught and coached for over for 28 years in PSUSD. He started teaching PE at Desert Springs Middle School where he met his wife, Suzy. At age 23, Coach Hanmer was named head coach for boys’ varsity basketball at Cathedral City HS where he led the team to the school’s first CIF Championship in 1997. During his tenure, the Lion’s had a Desert Valley league overall record of 139-35 with 8 DVL championships and an outstanding 303-123 career record. While at Rancho Mirage HS, he has coached over 150 victories, 4 league championship teams and 2 CIF semifinalists. His 2015 Rattlers team started out the season with a perfect 30-0 record. Coach Hanmer has coached over 20 fantastic college athletes during their HS careers. Coach Hanmer has coached basketball, golf, track, baseball, volleyball, tennis, soccer and flag football at the youth and high school levels.
Mr. Hanmer earned his Bachelor’s Degree from Cal Poly SLO and his Master’s degree from Chapman University. Since 2001, he has owned a custom athletic uniform company, Gear to the Max. In 2003, Coach Hanmer served as President of the Southern California Basketball Coaches Association and was guest speaker at Loyola Marymount and Pepperdine coaches clinics. In addition, he has helped run hundreds of tournaments including the prestigious MaxPreps Holiday Classic now called the Rancho Mirage Holiday Invitational. In his free time, Rob enjoys spending time watching Angels/Lakers/ LMU games and movies with his dogs and cats. His son, Will attends LMU and helps with the social media of the athletic department. Most importantly, Rob enjoys hanging out with wife Suzy and his son William year around but especially during the summer at Poipu Beach, Kauai.
